Charley Phillips

Charlotte Phillips, known to her friends as Charley, is best known for her artistic expressions in wood. A presenter and teacher for many years at wood carving and woodturning clubs, shows and seminars across the US, she conducted classes on wood carving and the detailed wooden baskets of illusions. She is the author of several articles in Woodcarving Illustrated magazine.

While Charley has many artistic talents that include drawing and painting, she is especially attracted to working with wood because of its inviting warmth, the uniqueness of each individual piece and the organic feel that wood provides. The creative process starts by interpreting the wood, then working with the grain and unique features to create beautifully-shaped objects. She further embellished the baskets of illusions with pyrography, patterns and colors inspired by nature and earth tones.

Transplanted from the Midwest at a young age, Charley calls the Pacific Northwest home. After several years of living in Texas, she recently had the opportunity to relocate and now happily makes her home in beautiful Central Oregon.
