Laurel Buchanan AIS

Laurel Buchanan’s oil paintings originate from her life-long fascination with nature. Her loose, painterly brushwork and bright, chromatic palette are influenced by the early 20th century California Impressionists. Raised on a citrus ranch in Southern California, Buchanan developed a strong passion for the outdoors through family outings. Drawing and painting from a young age, her mother inspired her love of art, with her creative spirit, and always available supplies. After graduation from California State University, Laurel’s years of working in surface design developed her knowledge of pattern and color, informing and influencing her style of painting today. Laurel is a firm believer that the Maker and Master Artist of all nature made people to be creative. Buchanan loves to encourage others in their own creative endeavors by teaching workshops. An American Impressionist Society member, Buchanan has participated in shows and other exhibitions in Oregon and California, and has been an award winning artist since 2005. Her work is collected nationally. She and her husband, Andy, moved to Oregon in 2001 where Laurel became a highly developed plein air painter. They now make their home in beautiful Central Oregon. “My style of art is based on observation of nature, but is ‘painterly’ and ‘impressionistic’ in that objects and scenes are portrayed in bold brush stokes aimed at capturing light and creating a mood.”
